No. 3 TCU men’s tennis team overcomes No. 17 South Florida

The No. 3 TCU men’s tennis team beat No. 17 South Florida 5-2 on Saturday afternoon in Tampa, Fla.

The Horned Frogs (9-2) won two doubles matches, one on a tiebreaker to secure the early lead against the Bulls (7-5).

No. 24 Alex Rybakov picked up his fourth win over a ranked opponent as he defeated No. 35 Dominic Cotrone 6-3, 6-2.

Jerry Lopez quickly followed when he downed Peter Bertran 5-4, 7-5. No. 49 Guillermo Nuñez clinched the match when he beat Sasha Gozun 7-6 (6), 7-5. Trevor Johnson beat Sebestien Butler 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Equestrian: No. 7 TCU finished its regular season with a 13-7 victory over No. 8 Kansas State in Springtown.

Winning for the Frogs were Carley Barnett, Jayme Omand, Nicole Diamantis, Kari Hancock, Molly Peddicord, Erin Gillette, Rylee Morgan, Megan McMullen, Meloney Morris and Brooke Boyle.

Softball: UTA ran its record to 17-0 by sweeping host Southeastern Louisiana.

The Mavericks won the opener 3-1 when Samantha Clakely did not give up any earned runs in seven innings.

In the second game, an 8-3 victory, UTA scored five runs in the fifth inning and Sam Montes gave up no runs and one hit in four innings in relief.

Men’s tennis: UTA (10-5) ended an eight-match losing streak to Wichita State with a 4-2 victory.

Softball: North Texas (11-6) won its two games at the Mean Green Spring Fling on Saturday, beating Nicholls State 2-1 and Tennessee-Martin 5-3.

Stacy Underwood pitched a complete-game 3-hitter against Nicholls State and Jessica Elder pitched 3  1/3 innings of shutout relief against UT Martin.
