Kadon Simmons pitched eight shutout innings to help UT Arlington beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7-1 in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington.
Simmons (3-1) scattered five hits and struck out four without a walk to help UTA (7-5) earn the split.
Outfielder Quinton Rohrbaugh led the way for the Mavericks offensively, going 3 for 5 in both games and recording three RBIs and three runs scored.
In the first game, UTA scored twice in the bottom on the ninth to force extra innings, but the Islanders (5-6) scored twice in the 11th to win 8-6.
