Krista Donald and Shacobia Barbee each had double-doubles, leading Georgia to a 62-53 victory over visiting TCU in women’s basketball Sunday.
Donald had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Barbee had 12 points and 14 rebounds.
TCU (1-1) led 35-30 at halftime, but went cold in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away and ran their record to 2-0.
Zahna Medley led TCU with 19 points by going 7-of-15 from the field. Donielle Breaux added nine points and six rebounds.
TCU’s halftime advantage vanished four minutes into the second half when Georgia went on an 8-0 run.
Chelsea Prince made a pair of free-throws to snap a 12-0 Georgia run and a six-minute TCU drought. Natalie Ventress followed with a jumper to cut the deficit to just two points.
But the Lady Bulldogs bumped their lead back to nine points on a 7-0 run. Medley sank her second 3-pointer and Alexia Standish followed with another 3-pointer as the Frogs cut Georgia’s lead to 53-50 with 6:57 remaining.
But the Frogs hit only one basket down the stretch.
TCU built its largest lead in the first half at 28-19 when AJ Alix assisted Veja Hamilton for a layup with just over five minutes left in the first half.
Alix assisted Klara Bradshaw two minutes later, who was fouled and added a free throw for a 3-point play to put TCU ahead by eight before it settled on its 35-30 halftime lead.
The Frogs shot just 19 percent in the second half for was 30 percent mark for the game. They were 13 of 18 at the free-throw line.
