Top-seeded West Virginia scored late in the first half and midway through the second and held off TCU 2-1 on Wednesday in the Big 12 women’s soccer tournament in Kansas City, Mo.
TCU’s Bobbi Clemmer scored for the eighth-seeded Horned Frogs (8-8-3) on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. West Virginia (15-2-2) scored in the 43rd minute and in the 67th minute. TCU goalie Vittoria Arnold had a season-high 10 saves in her final collegiate game. The Mountaineers outshot TCU 31-9.
• TCU men’s basketball: The Horned Frogs will host Tarleton State at 7 p.m. Thursday in an exhibition game at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center. Admission is free.

• Tennessee women’s basketball: The Lady Vols suspended four players for academic reasons. Coach Holly Warlick said that guards Ariel Massengale and Andraya Carter would miss one game and forward Cierra Burdick and guard Jannah Tucker would miss two because they did “not live up to our academic standards.”
• Michigan football: Defensive back Jabrill Peppers will redshirt this season because of a leg injury. The freshman has played only three games after entering the season as one of the most touted members of the Wolverines’ recruiting class.
