UTA, TCU qualify one each in track for NCAAs

One UT Arlington athlete qualified for the NCAA Championships and three more advanced to the next round of prelims at the first day of the NCAA West preliminary round in Austin on Thursday.

Roland Sales cleared 7 feet, 1 1/2 inches in the high jump, placing him among the top 12 in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Clayton Vaughn and Quentin Butler qualified in the men’s 100 meters with respective times of 10.04 and 10.07 seconds. They were fifth and sixth, respectively.

UTA is one of just four schools, along with Texas, Texas A&M and USC, to have two runners in the 100 meter quarterfinals.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals Friday is Ashly Wright, who was 15th in the women’s 800 meters with a 2:09.28.

Cameron Echols-Luper of TCU qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing third in the men’s long jump with a jump of 26-1 1/2.

Kolby Listenbee qualified for Friday’s quarterfinal after finishing 15th in the men’s 100 meters with a 10.17.

Ronnie Baker was disqualified from the 100 meters after a false start.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals was Tiffany Terry, who finished 18th in the women’s 400 meters with a 53.88.
