Offense backs strong start as UTA baseball snaps losing streak

The UT Arlington offense finally found its groove Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Six players collected multiple hits as the Mavericks blew past Arkansas-Little Rock 12-0 in the opener of a three-game conference series.

Junior left fielder Matt McLean had two hits and three RBIs to help the Mavericks (18-26, 9-13 Sun Belt) snap a five-game losing streak. Travis Sibley, Eric Tate and Brady Cox added three hits apiece.

UTA senior starter Chad Nack scattered nine hits over seven strong innings, striking out three and walking none, and fellow senior T.J. Whidby finished the game by striking out four over two hitless innings.

The Mavericks will square off against Arkansas-Little Rock (14-26, 10-11) in Game 2 of the series Saturday at 2 p.m.
