UT Arlington bats go quiet in setback to Lafayette

Gunner Leger pitched seven shutout innings and Kyle Clement hit a home run and knocked in three runs, leading Louisiana-Lafayette to a 5-0 victory over visiting UT Arlington in Sun Belt Conference baseball on Friday night.

The Mavericks (17-23, 8-11 Sun Belt) managed seven hits, but did not draw any walks and only put four runners in scoring position.

“Offensively we didn’t do much,” UTA coach Darin Thomas said. “We had a few guys on and he made pitches when he needed to and we didn’t generate a whole lot.

“It’s a disappointing start to the weekend. They’re a good club and we’ve just got to find a way to bounce back.”

Leger gave up five hits in seven innings and struck out six. Relief pitcher Will Bacon gave up two hits in two innings.

Travis Sibley had two hits for UTA.

The Ragin’ Cajuns are 26-15 and 11-7 in the Sun Belt.
