NBA Reviewing Victor Wembanyama's NBA Finals Shove on Jalen Brunson
San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama got away with an obvious foul during the first quarter of Monday night’s Game 3 matchup against the New York Knicks.
As Wembanyama battled for position with Jalen Brunson, he shoved the Knicks point guard in the back of the head. Brunson popped right back up and continued to defend the 7-foot-4 Frenchman.
Officials missed the call in real time, but the NBA is conducting review to determine if the play should be upgraded to a retroactive flagrant foul for Wembanyama.
The league already acknowledged that there was a missed foul call, but they’re still working to determine if any retroactive penalties will be issued.
“NBA head of officiating Monty McCutchen, appearing now on ESPN, acknowledges that a foul was missed on Victor Wembanyama’s first-quarter shove of Jalen Brunson and says the league’s review is still ongoing regarding whether the play will be deemed a retroactive flagrant foul,” league insider Marc Stein reported on Tuesday.
