Because atheists complained about the presence of Bibles in the guest rooms at Navy lodges, the Navy had directed that Bibles be removed from all guest rooms — a policy they are now reconsidering.
What is wrong with an atheist simply ignoring something that he does not want to read? The presence of a Bible does not “establish” religion. Why should everyone be denied the availability of a Bible because an atheist does not want one? Why do traditional American religious values have to be abolished when the minority atheists complain?
The U.S. military has had chaplains and Bibles since the beginning. George Washington prayed at Valley Forge. Most U.S. Presidents have prayed for the hand of God to guide our military and protect our men and women. It is our military who have fought and died to protect our freedoms, including freedom of religion.
When do we get to the “last straw?” People who cherish the Bible as the Word of God need to cry out louder than the atheists. Our freedom of religion is protected by the U.S. Constitution, but the Freedom From Religion Foundation is hailing this victory.
