In response to Patsy Bailey, who wrote about Wednesday’s letter from Edward Wyman, “Texas No.1?”:
There are plenty of us out here who agree with Wyman in that we are not proud that Texas ranks No.1 or close in an underfunded education system, underfed children and uninsured citizens, and we are not going anywhere. I was born in Texas and have lived here all my life, but unlike Bailey I do not find these situations acceptable or desirable. A change in Texas is on its way, and while it may take some time, Texas will eventually be a better place for all its people to call home.
As far as the statement that Wyman needs to move to another state, we are convinced that compassion, concern and generosity toward others is not exclusively a “New York state of mind,” as Bailey seems to suggest.
