Cynthia Allen has it backwards in her column about marriage. The decline in marriage is the result of poverty, not the other way around.
She correctly notes in her column that wealthier people tend to be married.
Perhaps if we worked harder to reduce poverty we could increase the rate of marriage. We do not need to redistribute income by taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor.
What we need to do is raise the minimum wage and provide the education required to fill existing jobs.
