The Dallas Safari Club Saturday, as part of its convention activities in Dallas, will be auctioning a permit to kill an endangered black rhinoceros and declaring it a “heroic conservation” effort.
The club and its supporters are attempting to deceive the public into believing this hunt is not the slaughter of a rare species of rhino, but an effort in conservation. The club’s actions and rhetoric dare to make palatable what most would deem unjustifiable — killing an animal facing extinction.
Several groups will be on hand in a peaceful protest. This will include members of Black Rhino Rescue Project, Abolish Trophy Hunting Group and One Generation (OMG). A documentary crew will also be on hand to cover the continued efforts of One Generation which would like to speak to the winner of the action to find out why they want to kill an endangered animal.
The peaceful protest will take place at 3:30 p.m. across from the Omni Hotel, 555 S. Lamar St.
