The Texas Department of Transportation has launched a new campaign, just in time for the holidays, focusing on planning sober rides before party goers even step out the door. It will run through Jan. 1, 2016.

“Plan while you can” also harnesses the power of social media, hoping to get more awareness through Twitter and Facebook. TxDOT is even hosting a contest for people using the hashtag #planwhileyoucan.

The campaign is currently on a statewide tour with interactive dodgeball to replicate the effects alcohol has on reflexes. The game shows how even one drink can slow reaction times, even if the person doesn’t feel tipsy or drunk.

The point of the campaign isn’t just to help bring awareness to more drunk drivers during the holidays.

It is to help create a new way of thinking for party goers.

If the designated driver, a completely sober individual, has been picked before anyone partakes in drinking, the safety of the drive home is solidified.
