An 8-year-old boy running from wasps was fatally struck by an SUV at a Lewisville mobile home park, police said.
The accident happened about 2 p.m. Sunday at the Northwood Mobile Home Park in the 400 block of Highway 121 business.
The boy, identified as Alexander Ramirez and two friends were playing when they disturbed a wasps’ nest, police said.
“Fearing being stung by the insects, the boys fled with one running into the path of an approaching vehicle,” Capt. Mike Lane said in a statement.

Ramirez was taken to Medical Center of Lewisville, where he was pronounced dead. Ramirez lived at the mobile home park, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.
The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, was cited for failure to maintain insurance. Police said neither alcohol nor excessive speed are not believed to be factors in the accident.
