A “heavily intoxicated” Weatherford woman was arrested this weekend after the 2-year-old boy she was baby-sitting was found alone in a motel parking lot, police Sgt. Jason Hays said.

Melissa Deann Morris, 43, was too drunk to realize the toddler had gotten out of a motel room at the Weatherford Heritage Inn in the 1900 block of Santa Fe Drive, Hays said.

By the time police arrived at the motel at 9 p.m., the boy was not injured but had been crying in the parking lot for about an hour.

Officers went room to room at the motel, trying to locate who was responsible for the child. They found Morris, who said she was baby-sitting the child.

“Due to her level of intoxication, she had no idea [the child left the room],” Hays said.

The boy’s parents were at work at the time, Hays said.

Morris was released from jail Sunday after posting $20,000 bail, according to jail records.

She faces a state jail felony charge of abandonment/endangerment of a child via criminal negligence.
