A man who police say broke into a family’s home and tried to set it on fire is now behind bars.
Lubbock Police went to a burglary call around 2:15 a.m. Oct. 23 and found a man with a gunshot wound to the stomach, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.
The West Texas man, identified as Clayton Fillingim, is now out of the hospital and faces a charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felon.
The newspaper reports the family of six heard someone in their kitchen, and the father warned the suspect he had a gun and police were on their way.

Police said the suspect told the family to leave as he tried pouring lighter fluid.
“The father says he told the suspect to stop or he would shoot, but the suspect became more agitated and began approaching him until he could no longer back up,” a statement to the newspaper reads. “The suspect was then shot in the stomach.”
Online records show Fillingim is now being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center, with no bond listed yet.
