A Donald Trump supporter was arrested near San Antonio this week after he wore a Trump hat and a “Basket of deplorables” T-shirt to vote in Bulverde, according to a KSAT-TV report Thursday.

Brett Mauthe, 55, was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor electioneering charge, the TV station reported.

A Comal County election official told KSAT that electioneering “can mean a T-shirt, a button, a hat, you know? Anything related to the voting, the party, the candidate.”

Mauthe told the TV station that he complied when officials asked him to take off his hat, but he declined to turn his T-shirt inside out.

The shirt referenced the “Basket of deplorables” comment Hillary Clinton made about some Trump supporters earlier this year.

Per the Texas Penal Code, electioneering “includes the posting, use, or distribution of political signs or literature” within 100 feet of a polling place.
