Texas Gov. Greg Abbott headlines Tarrant County’s largest Republican event next week.
Abbott will be the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner Jan. 30 at the Omni Hotel.
A host of local congressional, state and local officials are expected to attend. Money raised at this event is used to help fund the Tarrant County Republican Party year-round.
A silent auction begins at 5 p.m. A live auction — featuring items such as a handgun signed by Chuck Norris — will be held during the dinner.

Kicking off the campaign
Former state Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, formally kicked off his statewide campaign for the Texas Railroad Commission during a brunch Saturday at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.
“It’s time to end the one party rule,” he wrote in a an invitation to the event. “We need a life-long Democrat at the top [of the] Texas state ticket.
“Help make this a Commission for the people — elect Lon to this six year term.”
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price has been named chairwoman of the Community Leaders of America national caucus of GOP mayors and council members.
“Up until just over two years ago there was no national strategy focused on supporting Conservatives running for mayor and city council. CLA’s commitment to supporting these Republican officeholders and candidates is unrivaled — and I’m proud to continue that record of support in the elections ahead,” Price said.
Mayor Price is one of the hardest working mayors I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. Her focus on the issues has made Fort Worth a national leader when it comes to health, jobs, safety, and community engagement.
Outgoing CLA Chairman Mayor Richard J. Berry of Albuquerque, N.M.
“I look forward to working with my fellow Conservative municipal elected officials to take advantage of the opportunities to grow and expand the Republican Mayors and City Council caucus.”
U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson, R-Plano, endorsed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for president this week, bringing Cruz’s support among the 25 U.S. GOP Texas delegation to seven.
Supporting Cruz: Reps. John Culberson of Houston, Louie Gohmert of Tyler, Michael Burgess of Lewisville, John Ratcliffe of Heath, Brian Babin of Woodville, and Randy Weber of Friendswood.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has two Texas members supporting him for president: Reps. Kay Granger of Fort Worth and Pete Sessions of Dallas.
There are actually 10 U.S. Texas members who have endorsed someone for president.
Rep. Joe Barton of Ennis, who represents a portion of Tarrant County, was the only member of Congress to endorse former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has since suspended his campaign.
