Tarrant has spent over $15k in tax dollars on this road; County may disown it
Tarrant County Commissioners are set to discuss giving up control of a private road in northwest Tarrant County that is being maintained with county tax dollars. Over $15,000 has been spent on the segment since 2016.
Behind the gate going into La Cantera neighborhood is nearly a quarter-mile of Billings Road that is the responsibility of the county. All the other roads behind the subdivision’s gate are private and maintained by the La Cantera Homeowners Association.
County records of the Billings Road maintenance only date back to 2016, but the county has tended to the quarter-mile section since Oct. 21, 2008. In the past decade, $15,745 of the county’s funds have been allocated to Billings Road work including inspections, weed eating and mowing the surrounding grass.
At the April 14 county commissioners court meeting, Precinct 4 Commissioner Manny Ramirez will ask the court to consider relinquishing control of the street section whether it be through selling, abandoning or vacating the land.
