Goodfellow Fund makes Christmas easier for Fort Worth mom of three

Scarlett was delighted to land a part-time job last month.

“We got behind on credit cards and we’re trying to get our heads above water,” said the Fort Worth mother of three. “It’s hard when there’s only one person working.”

Scarlett’s husband is an administrative clerk for a Fort Worth company. But circumstances that hit them during the last year have been so hard on the couple’s finances that they had nothing left to buy Christmas presents for the kids. Although Sarah, 2, and Ariel, 5 months, are too young to be eligible, the Goodfellow Fund gave Scarlett a $50 J.C. Penney gift card to buy something for 5-year-old Leonardo.

“I got him two pairs of boots,” Scarlett said. “One was Woody, the Toy Story character. It has flashing lights. He didn’t want to put those down. The other pair is dressy, and they’re for school and church.”

Scarlett is confident that 2017 is going to be better. Even though bills keep coming, “we leave everything in the hands of God and just keep praying for the best,” she said. “God always provides.”

This year, so did the Goodfellow Fund.
