One person was killed early Sunday and a motorist was in custody after a fatal two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 20, police said.
A motorist identified by police as Joe Cody, 39, of Forest Hill was arrested at the scene. He faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, police said.
The victim was identified as Jose Cabrera, 33, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website Sunday. A hometown was not listed for Cabrera.
Patrol officers responded to call reporting a major accident about 12:35 a.m. Sunday in the 4700 block of Interstate 20 in the eastbound lanes.
When they arrived, officers located a sports utility vehicle and a sedan involved in the crash.
“Witnesses at the scene told police that the driver of the sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his vehicle and collided with the SUV,” police Capt. Jerry Cozby said in a Sunday news release.
The driver of the sedan was later identified as Cody, police said. He was the only person in the car.
On impact, Cabrera, the SUV driver, was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Three passengers were in the SUV, and one was taken to a local hospital. The condition of that passenger was not available Sunday morning. The other two passengers were not taken to a hospital.
Cody was in the Forest Hill Jail on Sunday morning. He had not been arraigned.
Authorities continued Sunday to investigate.
