Investigators identify boy as Fort Worth school arson suspect

Arson investigators have identified a boy as the suspect in an elementary school arson case and plan pursue the juvenile equivalent of felony charges, officials said Thursday.

The boy is accused of breaking into Meadow Creek Elementary School, 2801 Country Creek Lane, about 3:50 a.m. Monday and setting fire to items in a classroom and spray-painting graffiti, according to a news release from Fort Worth police and fire departments.

The Fire Department released surveillance video, seeking help in identifying the vandal.

Arson investigators plan to file an arson and burglary complaint against the boy soon, the news release said.

The names of juveniles in criminal cases are usually not released to the public.

The fire caused significant damage to the classroom and surrounding rooms, but it was contained by the building’s sprinkler system, the news release said.
