Police Wednesday afternoon identified the victim of a shooting in far south Fort Worth as Nancy Mata, 17.
She was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the 3700 block of Bee Tree Lane. A man at the home also had an apparent gunshot wound, police said, and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses told police they heard a car containing multiple occupants pull up to the house around 9:30 p.m., said officer Daniel Segura, a Fort Worth police spokesman. Then the neighbors heard multiple gunshots, he said.
“Suspect details are very limited at this time,” Segura said Wednesday. “We are hoping the surviving victim recuperates soon so detectives can have more details.”
Mata was a student Paschal High School from 2012 to October 2014, Fort Worth school district spokesman Clint Bond said.
Richard Wais, who lives on Bee Tree Lane, said Tuesday night that the house where Mata was found is rented, and he knows a couple lives there.
The owner of the house at the address is Kevin Kelcey, according to the Tarrant Appraisal District.
Mata’s death is the first homicide of the year in Fort Worth. There were 61 homicides in the city last year.
