After tense standoff, Fort Worth police arrest man accused of firing at cars on I-20

Fort Worth police have arrested a man accused of firing an AR-style rifle and a handgun at passing cars on I-20 in early August as well as a host of other crimes including a kidnapping in Dallas, a spokesman said Saturday.

Anthony Gordon, 32, ran from police before they were able to take him into custody Thursday, leading to a brief standoff, Officer Tracy Carter told the Star-Telegram. At one point, he said, Gordon pointed a gun to a woman’s head.

Officers had seen Gordon sitting in a vehicle in the area of West Fifth Street on Thursday afternoon, according to Carter, a police spokesman. As they approached his car, he opened the door and bolted into a nearby house, Carter said.

While inside, Gordon grabbed a woman and threatened her with a gun, Carter said. She ran outside and within minutes he came out on his own.

He faces charges from Fort Worth police of aggravated kidnapping — using a person as a shield or hostage, as well as aggravated robbery, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and unauthorized use of a vehicle, Tarrant County jail records show. Around 6:45 a.m. on Aug. 6, Gordon and a woman carjacked a woman in a pickup truck, police said, and fired at cars with an AR-style rifle and a handgun. A security camera video showed a male shooter holding the weapons in two hands, switching off as he fired.

He also faces warrants out of Dallas, Carter said. Gordon is a suspect in a kidnapping on Aug. 29, in which a woman reported a man forced her to leave with him at gunpoint in the 6600 block of Lover Lane, a Dallas police spokesperson said in an email on Saturday.

On Aug. 31, police located the victim but couldn’t find the suspect, the spokesperson said. The woman informed police she had been able to get away but was afraid to call 9-1-1 because she feared for her safety.

Additionally. Haltom City police have also charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm and unauthorized use of a vehicle, records show, and evading arrest with a vehicle.

Haltom City police didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday.

Officer Bradley Perez, a Fort Worth police spokesman, told WXAS-TV the department was happy to have located a dangerous individual and “gotten him off the street.”

He’s being held in the Tarrant County Correction Center on a combined $200,000 bond.
