Detectives continued their search Sunday night for a suspect who shot and killed a young man in a southwest Burleson neighborhood.

Investigators do not believe the homicide was a random crime.

“Detectives are following some very solid leads,” said city spokeswoman DeAnna Phillips in a Sunday night email. “They (detectives) have been following up on several leads since the shooting.”

The victim has been identified as Amory Washington, 21, of Burleson, according to officials with the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. Washington died early Sunday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Huguley.

Police responded to a 911 call shortly before 2:30 a.m. regarding a shooting in the 1000 block of Remington Circle.

Officers located a man later identified as Washington with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Washington was taken to the Fort Worth hospital, where he died.

“Detectives do not believe there is a threat to the general public at this time,” Phillips said.

Police did not release any other information on the case.
