A man who was believed to be homeless was found dead and burned behind a commercial strip shopping center on North Beach Street early Wednesday, a fire official said.

The man was discovered in the 2900 block of N. Beach St.

The victim was identified as Vayvanthong Inthalangsy, 59, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website

Fire officials believe the man started the fire to stay warm as the wind chill was in the upper teens Wednesday morning.

Firefighters responded to a report of a burn victim at the location shortly before 8 a.m.

Fire department spokesman Mike Drivdahl said Wednesday the fire was set just outside the building near the back. No damage was reported to the building.

“We don’t have any reason to believe there was foul play,” Drivdahl said. “But an investigation continues.”

A preliminary police report indicated a man went into a business and reported he had pulled another man out of a fire.

Emergency responders determined he was dead at the scene, Drivdahl said.

His immediate cause of death was not determined.

“That will be up to Fort Worth PD and Fort Worth fire arson unit investigations,” Drivdahl said.

Police did not release any other details.

A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze at a vacant church in south Fort Worth on Sunday afternoon , according to fire officials.
