A woman living in the Ladera Palms Apartments in southeast Fort Worth woke early Wednesday morning to find a man lying on top of her, police said.
Police responded to a home invasion call shortly after 3:30 a.m., according to police records.
“The victim yelled out for help, and the suspect ran off,” said police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani.
After an investigation, a Hispanic suspect was found and arrested, Pollozani said.
An officer wearing a jacket that read “Police ICE” was seen at the apartment complex with a young male Hispanic detainee.
“We believe the suspect acted alone, and he has been arrested for burglary with intent to commit a felony,” Pollozani said.
He said the investigation is ongoing. A second man, who appeared to be Asian and in his late 30s to early 40s, was also seen being detained at the scene, but police have not said whether he was arrested and charged.
Lal Ghaley, 32, said Wednesday that he’s lived at the sprawling, litter-strewn apartment complex for about five years. He said there have been a lot of break-ins to apartments and vehicles, and that recently installed security cameras don’t seem to help.
“These apartments are not safe, that’s why people keep moving out,” said Ghaley, who added that he worried for his wife and small children.
