A 19-year-old was in custody Wednesday on a murder charge after police say he fatally stabbed his father in the family's home.
The name of the victim had not been released by authorities, but a relative identified him as Sandy Hammett.
Jail records identified the suspect as Samuel Lamar Hammett
Police responded to a cutting call about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2600 block of Poplar Spring Road.
When they arrived, officers discovered that a man had been stabbed by his son in the family's home.
Police did not release any details on a possible motive.
But Samuel Hammett's grandmother told the Star-Telegram that her adult son, Samuel's father, attempted to get Samuel out of bed Tuesday afternoon.
"My son said, 'Why you sleeping all day?'" Alma Hammett said Wednesday. "My grandson got up and went nose-to-nose with my son. My son pushed my grandson down back on the bed."
Samuel Hammett is accused of grabbing a knife and then fatally stabbing his father.
Alma Hammett said the knife was in a chest of drawer in her grandson's bedroom.
The elder man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Alma Hammett said Wednesday her grandson had moved into the Fort Worth residence in March.
"He had left in December to stay with his mother in Florida," Alma Hammett said in a telephone interview. "He (grandson) came back."
Sandy Hammett had wanted his son to find a job.
Hammett was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and was in the Tarrant County Jail on Wednesday without bail.
