The flood damage that shut down Fort Worth's Apple Store? Blame a burglar

It's a common scene outside Apple Stores whenever a new iPhone is released: Eager shoppers line the sidewalks, patiently waiting for the big glass doors to open.

Apparently, a Fort Worth burglar had other ideas earlier this month.

The unknown suspect tried to enter the Apple Store in University Park Village through the roof, causing a leak that led to flood damage and forced the store to shut down for several days, according to a police report.

The incident happened overnight on Nov. 8, five days after Apple released the $999 iPhone X.

An employee arrived at the store in the morning and found that rainwater was leaking from the roof, the report said. Multiple items in the store had been damaged.

The store remained closed until Nov. 13 as crews cleaned up flooding. Customers were directed to the Apple Store at Southlake Town Square, the store's only other location in Tarrant County.
