Fort Worth to be a part of federal initiative to build trust with law enforcement

Fort Worth will be one of six pilot sites of the National Initiative for Building Community Trust and Justice, a Department of Justice effort to build trust between communities and their local law enforcement.

Attorney General Eric Holder will announce the initiative’s first pilot sites Thursday at 2 p.m., according to a news release.

The $4.75 million partnership with criminal justice experts is part of the department’s “ongoing commitment to strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve,” the release says. It will invest in training, evidence-based strategies, policy development and research to combat distrust and mend bonds between law enforcement and the community.

Training will cover bias reduction, procedural fairness and reconciliation.

Holder’s announcement follows his multistate Building Community Trust tour over the last several months.
