The victim in a major fatal crash Tuesday on Interstate 35W has been identified as Stephen Dean, 46, of Fort Worth.

He was killed when his SUV fell off a bridge on the highway in Fort Worth about 12:23 p.m., according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office and the Fort Worth Police Department.

Dean was driving south on I-35W near the Northeast 28th Street exit about noon when a northbound tractor-trailer struck a cement barrier between the northbound and southbound lanes, knocking it into southbound traffic, according to Fort Worth police spokesman Jimmy Pollozani. Dean’s SUV struck the barrier and went off the overpass, crashing below.

As of 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, there were no charges against the tractor-trailer driver, but the crash was still under investigation, Pollozani said.

The wreck caused long delays for traffic in both directions.
