Three people were killed and another person was critically injured early Sunday after a pickup crashed into the back of a loaded dump truck on Texas 183 and burst into flames, police said Sunday.

The names of the victims had not been released.

Police responded to a major accident call shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Texas 183 near O’Connor Road.

“It appears speed and alcohol were factors in the crash,” Irving police spokesman James McLellan said Sunday. “There were no skid marks.”

Two men ages 33 and 36, and a woman who remained unidentified late Sunday, died at the scene, police said. A fourth person, a 28-year-old man, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured, police said.

The highway was closed for more than five hours as authorities investigated.
