Heavy traffic is expected this weekend for one of the biggest events of the year at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Over 150,000 fans were expected to travel to the speedway this weekend, so motorists may want to seek alternate routes on Interstate 35W, especially on Sunday for the AAA Texas 500, which begins at 1 p.m.

Fort Worth police encourage using routes that are west of the speedway and avoid the intersection of Interstate 35W and Texas 114.

There will be no new closures on I-35W between Western Center and North Tarrant Parkway, barring an emergency, until noon on Monday, North Tarrant Express officials said.

A map at texasmotorspeedway.com shows the best routes to the track for fans traveling from Fort Worth, Denton and Dallas.

Fort Worth police will also have extra officers working in the neighborhoods close to the speedway, the release said.
