‘Mannequin Challenge’ a viral hit for Timber Creek football team

The 19-second video shows the football players at Keller Timber Creek doing...absolutely nothing.

OK, so maybe it took a little skill to coordinate a real-life freeze frame inside the team’s locker room.

What the players were really doing — and, apparently, with some success, based on the video’s popularity — was the Mannequin Challenge.

The whole point of the “challenge” is to find a pose of your choice and stay there. Then throw on some background music and go viral.

Here’s how Twitter described it when the online phenomenon trended Friday:

“Students (and sometimes their teachers) everywhere are stepping up and standing still, striking and holding intricate poses for longer-than-usual periods of time in the #MannequinChallenge.”

There’s really not much else to it.

But by Friday afternoon, Timber Creek’s video had been retweeted more than 1,400 times (and liked twice as many) and featured on ESPN’s SportsNation show and Deadspin.

A video last week, with students sitting on chairs and tables in a classroom, started the online phenomenon, according to Mashable.

Now, it seems we’re close to adding the Mannequin Challenge to the canon of viralness, next to the likes of planking, the Running Man Challenge and the Harlem Shake.
