North Texas marching bands strut their stuff at Mansfield contest

It’s marching season across Texas, and Class 5A schools strutted their best stuff at a regional contest Tuesday at Mansfield’s Vernon Newsom Stadium.

Schools in the University Intercholastic League’s Region 5-5A contest included Fort Worth’s Carter-Riverside, Dunbar, South Hills, Eastern Hills, North Side, Wyatt, Poly, Diamond-Hill, Paschal, Arlington Heights, Southwest, Western Hills and Trimble Tech; Mansfield’s Summit, Lake Ridge, Legacy and Mansfield High; and Arlington’s Lamar, Martin, Seguin, Sam Houston and Arlington High.

Class 5A schools do not compete for state titles this year because the UIL rotates classifications annually.

This year, marching bands from 4A and 6A high schools will compete in regional and area contests with the hope of making it to state, which is Nov. 7-9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Area contests for North Texas bands are scheduled for Oct. 31 at Pennington Field in Bedford and Collins Stadium in Denton.
