Ice cream man robbed at gunpoint in Fort Worth

An ice cream man was robbed at gunpoint Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth by thieves who took all of his money and led Fort Worth police on a chase before crashing the getaway vehicle.

One adult and one juvenile were taken into custody. Three more suspects escaped on foot, police said.

At about 2 p.m., callers to police reported that four men approached an ice cream man in the 3800 block of Avenue H. Two pointed guns at the victim. The group took his money and fled in a red Ford pickup, according to an incident report.

When officers located the suspects and tried to stop them, the driver did not pull over, so a chase began in the 1700 block of East Roberts Street. The suspects’ pickup crashed near Evans Avenue and East Rosedale Street, police said.

“During the pursuit of the vehicle, the suspect vehicle wrecked out and five individuals exited the vehicle and ran on foot,” said Officer Jimmy Pollozani, Fort Worth Police spokesman, via an email.

Inside the pickup, which was reported stolen from Fort Worth, officers found a handgun and an AR-15 assault weapon. A handgun found on one of the suspects was reported stolen from Sansom Park, Pollozani said.

Pollozani said the man in custody faces charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest. Information about the other arrested suspect was not available because that person is a juvenile.

Robbery detectives are still investigating. Names of those involved and the amount of money taken in the robbery were not available.
