Fort Worth ISD offers free dinner to students in new program for 2024-25 school year
Students in the Fort Worth Independent School District will have an opportunity to have a free “dinner” at school through a new program launching this year.
The district announced on Monday a new partnership with Sodexo, which supplies healthy food to children in need through various programs, that makes the free dinners accessible to students at all campuses offering an after-school enrichment program in the 2024-25 school year. The meals will be available to students who are present at the campuses each day, even if they are not enrolled in the after-school activities, according to officials. The dinner options will include grains, a meat or meat alternative, fruits, vegetables and dairy components.
The first day of school for Fort Worth ISD is Aug. 13.
“We are looking forward to an exciting year of positively impacting the lives of our students every day,” Executive Director of Child Nutrition Services Pamela Watson said in a news release. “Our partnership with Sodexo embodies the spirit of collaboration with the goal of creating a thriving learning environment.”
The partnership marks the district’s distribution of three meals a day to students, as the district will continue providing free breakfast and lunch when school returns.
“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership with Sodexo provides. We know that nutrition is an integral part of the learning process, and we are committed to ensuring that our students have access to healthy menu options that taste great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner,” Deputy Superintendent Kellie Spencer said in the release.
