Employee opened fire on Dallas patrol officers

An employee providing security for his company, which had been recently burglarized, opened fire early Friday on patrol officers who were providing extra security to the area.

Minutes after shooting, the man surrendered to police after they took cover behind patrol vehicles and commanded him to give up.

No one was injured in the shooting that occurred about 2:40 a.m. at 10702 CF Hawn Freeway.

Extra patrols were in the area early Friday after a business in the neighborhood was burglarized two days ago, police said Friday.

At one point, the officers observed headlights from a vehicle that was parked at the back of the business near a metal fence.

Once additional officers arrived, police walked to the fence when shots were fired.

After taking cover, officers ordered the gunman to surrender and he came out with his hands up, police said.

The man was taken into custody with incident and was being interviewed without incident. A handgun was found in the area.

The man told police he was an employee of the business and he had was there to provide security for the business.

According to local television reports, the man told investigators that he mistook the officers for burglars and fired the shots.

No charges had been filed, but an investigation continued.
