The Dallas Zoo is mourning the loss of a chimpanzee who died after falling ill during an exam at their hospital Friday.

Despite emergent efforts by the veterinary team, the chimpanzee, Kona, was unable to be resuscitated, the Zoo said in a Facebook post.

Kona, 7, was born in 2009 and has been loved by visitors for his outgoing personality. Kona’s parents, Ramona and KC, brother, Mshindi, and the five other chimpanzee’s were allowed time with him after his death, the post said.

“All are doing well. We’ll keep a close eye on them, but animals are very resilient about loss, so we don’t expect any issues,” the Zoo said on Facebook.

Kona was also loved by his zookeepers who are mourning the loss of their beloved chimpanzee.
