A Dallas police officer fatally shot a suspect Wednesday after the suspect approached the officer with a handgun, police said.

The shooting happened about 9:40 a.m. in the 3500 block of Virginia Boulevard, in the Oak Cliff neighborhood, a police news release said.

The officer had been investigating a report of a carjacking when he saw Anthony Garcia, 24, in the car that he believed had been stolen.

Garcia got out of the car and approached the officer with a gun, the news release said. The officer shot at Garcia, killing him.

The officer was not injured during the incident.

SWAT members were called to the scene after police learned there may be a second suspect barricaded in a building. No additional suspect was found, Vaughn said.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
