Teen arrested in Fort Worth traffic death

A teen has been arrested in the traffic death Tuesday of a Springtown man who died after a truck hit his van while it was disabled on a service road, police said Thursday.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested late Tuesday evening and faces a charge of delinquent conduct/criminally negligent homicide in the death of 51-year-old David Rajski.

Under the Texas Penal Code, recklessly causing a death is criminally negligent homicide.

Police did not release the name of the teen because he is a juvenile. They provided no other details, but speed has been listed as a contributing factor.

The accident occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on the westbound service road in the 2800 block of Northwest Loop 820 .

His van had broken down and he had pulled onto the shoulder of the road, police said.

Initially, police said Rajski had been walking to get assistance, but on Thursday authorities said they had not determined whether he was walking, standing by his van or sitting in it when it was hit by a pickup.

The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office ruled that Rajski’s death was an accident and that he died from blunt-force injuries.

Rajski died at 7:59 p.m. Tuesday at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth.

The 16-year-old pickup driver stopped after the accident, police Sgt. Steve Enright said Wednesday in an email.

He was treated at the scene for minor injuries, authorities said.

No other major injuries were reported.
