Woman faces charge after 2-year-old left in hot car in Grand Prairie

A woman suspected of leaving a child in a hot car last week in a Grand Prairie shopping center was arrested Thursday.

Maritza Charles, 51, left the 2-year-old in a hot vehicle on June 22 at the corner of Texas 360 and Camp Wisdom Road, Grand Prairie police said in a news release. A store employee got into the vehicle and removed the girl, and she was taken to a hospital, where she was in critical condition for several days, the release said.

Charles faces a second-degree felony charge of abandoning or endangering a child. She remained in jail Thursday with bail set at $10,000.
