A man is accused of kidnapping his estranged girlfriend Friday in rural Johnson County and threatening to kill her so he could have custody of their kids, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department said.
Deputies were called at 12:21 p.m. to a mobile home park in the 8300 block of County Road 409 near the town of Grandview in southeast Johnson County, when a woman reported that “her daughter was kidnapped out of the shower by her estranged boyfriend,” the department said in a news release.
The suspect, Ricardo Martinez, 33, is accused of punching the victim in the face and dragging her into a vehicle, the release said. A deputy saw the vehicle traveling south on Interstate 35W and pulled it over, finding the victim safe in the passenger seat.
The woman told authorities that Martinez threatened to kill her so he would get custody of their children, the release says.
