UNT student shot by campus police officer

DENTON – A University of North Texas student carrying an ax was shot and killed by a UNT police officer early Sunday morning. A statement from the university president said the suspect "advanced on the officer" and was fatally shot.

The medical examiner identified the suspect as 21-year-old Ryan McMillan. UNT president Neal Smatresk said the victim was a student at the university.

McMillan turned 21 on Saturday.

Witnesses reported a man breaking the windows of several vehicles in a parking garage near W. Oak Street and Fry Street in Denton around 1:30 a.m. Trey Willcox told News 8 the man could be heard screaming while hitting cars. Read the rest of the story
