One man is dead and two suspects are in custody after a home invasion early Saturday in Irving.

Irving police responded to a call about a home invasion about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of Jeff Court, said police spokesman James McLellan. One of the three people in the home reported that three suspects were robbing them, and at least one was armed.

When police arrived, officers saw two of the suspects come out of the front door carrying bags. They quickly retreated inside, McLellan said. Soon, the three victims came outside and told police that the suspects ran out the back door.

McLellan said that police searched the neighborhood and that at about 3:30 a.m., they found one suspect and took him into custody without incident. He was identified as Jaime Alexander Gutierrez, 26.

About an hour later, officers located the other two suspects in a back yard on the opposite end of the cul-de-sac from where the robbery took place.

One suspect fired at the officers, and they fired back, killing him, McLellan said. The man was not immediately identified. No officers were injured.

The third suspect ran again and tried to break into a house before hiding under the porch. Police surrounded him and were able to bring him out without further incident at 7:30 a.m. He was not armed when he was arrested. He has been identified as Obed Isau Zavala, 26. He and Gutierrez are charged with aggravated robbery.

The robbery victims were unharmed, and three officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave pending investigation.
