A Fort Worth man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend in Harris County in 2012 while one of the woman’s children watched was arrested Monday evening in Fort Worth by federal authorities and police.
Mauricio Izaguirre, 24, of Fort Worth remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday morning.
Acting on a tip, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service and Fort Worth police went to the 3500 block of Northwest 28th Street and watched as Izaguirre left the residence in a truck, according to preliminary Fort Worth police reports. Authorities stopped the truck in the 3400 block of Azle Avenue near Titus Street and arrested Izaguirre.
He is accused of killing 39-year-old Alma Canales in March 2012 at their home in the 5900 block of Gray Cliff Drive near Lorne in northeast Harris County, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Investigators said Izaguirre had been arguing with Canales and pulled out a gun and shot her.
Canales’ children were home, and one of her small daughters heard the gunshot and saw her mother wounded, officials said. Canales died at Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center.
