Motorist in stolen vehicle killed in Fort Worth chase

A man driving a stolen car led police on a high-speed chase late Thursday before he crashed and died at the scene, police said Friday.

The name of the driver had not been released by officials.

Police reported that an officer spotted a suspicious vehicle at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 3200 block of St. Louis Avenue. The officers attempted to get a license plate number, but the motorist sped away at a high rate of speed, running a stop sign.

At some point, the motorist lost control of the vehicle on Berry Street near Interstate 35W. He hit two trees in the 1000 block of East Berry Street, police said.

The car had been reported stolen, police said.
