An Illinois man was in custody Sunday accused of being intoxicated when he hit an off-duty Denton County deputy directing traffic at a rodeo near Krum, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said.
The suspect was identified as Jaime Fabela of Seneca, Ill.
Fabela is accused of driving a pickup that struck the deputy Saturday evening near Krum in Denton County. Krum is about 42 miles north of Fort Worth.
The deputy who authorities had not identified was taken by helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. She was in stable condition on Sunday, and she was in good spirits, said sheriff department spokeswoman Sandi Brackeen on Sunday in an email.

The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday on Farm Market 2450 near Krum.
The deputy was directing traffic when she was hit by a green pickup driven by Fabela. The Illinois man was taken into custody and he now faces charges of driving whilte intoxicated and intoxication assault, said DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel in a Sunday email.
Fabela was in the Denton County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Troopers continued on Sunday to investigate the incident.
