5 men charged with murder in 19-year-old’s shooting death in Grand Prairie

Five men have been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Thursday morning in Grand Prairie, police said.

Derrick Johnson was found shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2600 block of South Forum Drive, police said. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

On Tuesday, five men were charged with murder in Johnson’s death.

Jermon Carson, 25, Jonathan Fletcher, 20, Deandre Holmes, 19, Donald Hill, 18, and Kendarius Williams, 17, were arrested with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service North Texas Fugitive Task Force and the Arlington Police Department, Grand Prairie police said in a press release.

Carson, Holmes and Williams were in custody at the Grand Prairie Detention Center. Fletcher and Hill were at the Tarrant County Jail.

Detectives said they do not believe the shooting was random and think Johnson and the men knew each other.

“The public was never in any danger other than these guys were shooting in an apartment complex,” Mark Beseda, public information officer with the Grand Prairie Police Department, said. “(Johnson) was targeted by them.”

The investigation was still ongoing and detectives were still conducting interviews Tuesday evening, Beseda said.
