Twins Graydon and Gracie Morris combined to bring home three medals from the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Sacramento, California recently. Competing in the 15-16 age group, he captured a gold and silver, while she claimed a bronze.
Graydon won the 3,000-meter run. He posted a time of 8:51.95. He was a close second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:10.04.
Gracie finished third in the 1,500, clocking a 4:42.84. She narrowly missed a second medal, finishing fourth in the 3,000 with a 10:24.
Two members of the Mach I Track Club also competed in the meet. Sadie Tharp, competing in the Girls 13-14 division, placed 21st in the 3,000 with a 10:53.3 and was 29th in the 1,500 with a 5:01, which almost matched her personal best time.
Also from Mach I, Mayden Mitchell competed in the Girls 8-Under 1,500. She was unable to finish the event, however, coach Lupe Torres said.
ALEDO TEAM WINS WORLD SERIES
Aledo Black swept the field in capturing the championship of the PONY (Protect Our Nation's Youth) South Zone Shetland (ages 5-6) World Series in Youngsville, Louisiana recently.
Aledo defeated Harlingen 18-12 in the championship game, completing a 4-0 tournament record. They opened with a 19-14 win over Kinder, followed by a 21-17 victory against Temple Terrace.
In the semifinals they edged Kinder a second time, 19-18.
Aledo qualified for the World Series by finishing second in the Shetland American State Tournament. They fell to Normoyle, 22-21 in the championship round of that tournament after coming back through the losers bracket.
YOUTH FOOTBALL REGISTRATION
Registration wraps up for Weatherford Optimist Tackle/Flag/Cheer Saturday. Sign-ups are at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main, from 9 a.m.-noon.

MIRACLE LEAGUE REGISTRATION
Registration is underway for the Miracle League of Parker County and runs through Aug. 31. The season runs from Sept. 17-Oct. 22.
Games are played on Saturdays beginning at 9 a.m.
The Miracle League is a non-profit organization designed to give those with mental disabilities a chance to play baseball. Experience level is not a factor, and players of all ages are invited to join.

AREA FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGES
With area football practices underway, scrimmages are approaching. Brock and Millsap each have two scrimmages, while Aledo and Weatherford will each have one.
Millsap has a pair of scrimmages at home, Friday against Chico, followed by Tolar and Benbrook on Aug. 19. Both scrimmages begin at 6 p.m.
Brock will scrimmage Eastland at home Friday at 6 p.m. and will travel to Mineral Wells Aug. 18 at 9 a.m.
Aledo will scrimmage Trophy Club Nelson Aug. 19 at 9 a.m. in Aledo. Weatherford will host Fort Worth Chisholm Trail at home on Aug. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
